This is an advanced course in world literature which prepares students for the Advanced Placement Examination. AP English is designed to provide a broad background in Western literature from a Christian perspective. It is designed for, but not limited to, the serious college-bound student. Students will read books which reflect various philosophies and world views. Students will also learn the language and perspective of different forms of literary criticism, including new criticism, post-colonial criticism, feminist criticism, Marxist criticism, deconstruction, and other post-modern critical theories. Essay questions will be similar to those that the student will encounter in college literature courses. Students are highly encouraged, though not required, to take the AP exam.
